The Caribbean Marine energy Technology forum will take place in Granada on November 6th. Possible renewable marine energy sources will be the topic of interest. These include tidal power, wave energy and offshore wind energy, but the main focus will be on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC).
The Forum will be hosted by CARICOM (Caribbean Community) and co-hosted by the Government of Grenada and CCREEE (Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency). The goal of the forum is to spread knowledge, attract potential investors and developers and finally create a good platform to support research on the possible impacts and innovations of the energy sources.

This forum is paramount for the development of marine renewable energy sources. These technologies are promising and feasible however the centre of interest has been on onshore renewables leaving marine renewable energy far behind on a technological level. OTEC will be tackled most extensively, the prospects will be discussed based on the results the plants in Hawaii and Japan have achieved. Experts in this field will come together and brainstorm on how to reduce the costs and maintain the desired results.
Dr. The Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, Prime minister of Grenada, will be the leading speaker at the opening of the forum. Furthermore, multiple experts will be present to discuss their findings and thoughts throughout the forum.
